Prince Charles Is a Drink Driver …

… titles The Sun. But be careful to read correctly, “drink” and not “drunk“. And it’s explained as follows:

The classic gas-guzzler, a DB6 Volante given to the Prince by the Queen to mark his 21st birthday in 1970, has been overhauled to make it more environmentally-friendly.
It now runs on bioethanol extracted from local vineyards’ surplus plonk – at a cost of £1.10 per litre.

Great Tits Cope Well with Warming

Now isn’t THAT a headline. And if it was in The Sun, you’d know what to expect. But as it’s in the science section of BBC News, it’s about birds.

higher McLearning

Amazing, now you can even get your A-level at McDonald’s, cf. “McDonald’s and other big businesses will award their own qualifications equal to GCSEs, A levels and degrees, in subjects such as fast-food restaurant management, the Government will announce today.

Network Rail, Flybe and McDonald’s will become the first companies to be given such powers by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). Gordon Brown will announce the move today as he seeks to regain the initiative over the issue of the unskilled unemployed from the Conservatives. “

offensive pigs

“A story based on the Three Little Pigs fairy tale has been turned down by a government agency’s awards panel as the subject matter could offend Muslims. The digital book, re-telling the classic story, was rejected by judges who warned that ‘the use of pigs raises cultural issues’.”

cf. BBC online news

This, to my mind, is political correctness taken too far and smacks of censorship.

anxiety over gusset support

According to the Sun newspaper, “TELLY’S toughest interrogator, Jeremy Paxman, has never been afraid to get to the bottom of the really big issues. [...]“

And that’s what his “big issue” seems to be nowadays: “[...] according to Paxman — or Pantsman as he may now be know — when it comes to the business of buying a good pair of underpants, it isn’t style that matters but good old-fashioned gusset support.
He said: ‘Like large numbers of men in this country I have always bought my socks and pants at Marks & Sparks. I’ve noticed something very troubling has happened. There’s no other way to put this — their pants no longer provide adequate support. When I’ve discussed this with friends and acquaintances it has revealed widespread gusset anxiety
